Well, there’s now no excuse for anyone to say that they have to stay at home because they couldn’t find anyone to look after their pets when they were away :-)

I must make enquiries here to see if there are any ferret-friendly places we can take our gang. Certainly there are a number of dog-friendly motels down in the southwest, so who knows …..

I can imagine Philip’s face as we pack the car for a weekend in Margaret River – the little Getz overflowing with cages and our German Shepherd. Ho ho ho – I don’t think so!!

Richie Goins enjoyed his recent vacation in Texas. So did his ferrets Lollie, Shadow, Skeedie and Ghost.

“They `dooked’ almost the entire trip,” Goins said. “That’s a happy ferret noise.”

Sharon Loper-Bloch knows that her African gray parrot, Sequoia, adores traveling. “I told him the night before we were going `big-time bye-bye,’ and he was so excited — he did the antsy dance, like little kids do.”

Mitch the cat (short for Michelle) likes lolling in the sun on owner Dave Arthurs’ boat, “as long as we’re in a harbor or marina,” he said, because “she did get seasick” when under way.

Americans are a traveling lot, and lots of them are bringing two-legged and four-legged companions.

Dogs have become relatively common vacationers, but now iguanas, birds and even pet skunks (descented, of course) are tagging along.

“I decided my ferrets are part of my family,” said Goins, of Hilliard, Ohio, “and they deserve a vacation just like us.”
