HR-669 update

I’ve had a number of people emailing me asking if there was any more news on HR-669 so I did some snooping around and … unfortunately … cannot find anything specific to report.

There was an update about the bill on Lianne’s Exotic Pet Blog and I also found another update on BirdChannel.com . The editors of the site said …
“Update, April 27, 2009: As a clarification, please note that no vote took place at the hearing for H.R. 669 on April 23, 2009. Many of those who spoke at the hearing, including the Subcommittee Chairwoman who authored the bill, acknowledged that the bill needs changing. This means that the current form of the bill will likely change, but the bill itself is alive. — Editors”

Then I found a posting by Adam Wysocki of No669.com which said that the bill got 3 more co-sponsors.
So – what is the outcome? I think Congress was quite surprised that so many people wrote to them about the bill and they realised that the wording needed a lot of rewriting. Hopefully they’ll add ferrets and all the other animals that should be considered domesticated to the list with dogs and cats and only consider banning large “wild” animals from being owned, which would be entirely reasonable.
The latest on Muis

Well the old girl is still doing remarkably well – she is pottering around the house and seems bright and full of beans.

Her stomach is still bald, as you can see from the photo, and even her foot, which was shaved for the operation she had, is still hairless. Incredible!

I’ve upped her dose of Poly-MVA – I used to just give her the 0.5mls in the smoothy, which all the ferrets shared, but now I give her a really small saucerful of Whiskas Pet Milk mixed with 0.5mls of Poly-MVA morning and night when I give her her Prednisone.

Of course there is no way of knowing if this is doing her any good and helping to slow down the cancer unless I get the vet to give her another ultrasound. If that showed the tumour had decreased, then I would know definitely that all the extra stuff I’m giving her is actually working but I somehow doubt that Philip would be very happy with me if I forked out $400+ to have that done.

The vet gave her 12-18 months from the time she was diagnosed with Insulinoma so if I can keep her going for longer than that and her quality of life stays good, then I guess that should prove the Poly-MVA and TCM worked. Fingers crossed!!

New granddaughter

Nothing to do with ferrets but I must boast about the new addition to the family :)

Little Grace Lila Dawson was born at 6am on Saturday morning and she’s just the the most adorable little thing.

Of course all babies are gorgeous and I admit I am very biased, but she does seem to be a very placid and non-demanding little soul — must take after her maternal grandmother! LOL!!

It’s fantastic! I now have another child I can convert into a ferret lover :-D
