I think this blog about otters is so gorgeous and … with a tiny bit of tweaking … could apply to ferrets as well :-)

Our pets live to play as well, don’t they, and they have the ability to make their owners laugh so much that their worries are forgotten for a while.

I reckon it’s a mustelid trait and I bet if others of the species were domesticated, you’d find they all would have the same endearing habits.

The Spiritual Nature Of Otters

An otter frequently rolls over and over without touching its head, arms, legs, or tail in the water. This smooth, effortless accomplishment baffles even otter experts. In many ways otters are mystical creatures and we can learn much from their playful spirit.

Though a member of the weasel family, otters are awkward on land, but are expert swimmers and divers. There are several species and otters inhabit almost every water source from rivers and marshes to the ocean. They also live on all continents except for Australia and the Antarctic. Their playful, curious antics have endeared them to humans everywhere.

According to Native American totem tradition, otters have much to teach us. Often referred to as the clowns of the water world, otters live to play.
