I got quite excited when I read that there would be a TV show called “The Royal and their Pets” airing a couple of months’ ago.

Got comfy with my popcorn and Coke, turned on the TV and watched these talking head Poms, speaking like they had hot potatoes in their mouths, discussing the various animals that kept the Royals company over the past couple of centuries.

We heard about Queen Victoria’s greyhounds and dachshunds, we found out that Queen Alexandra had a black ewe, and there was an untrained parrot belonging to King Edward which used to leave his droppings all over the furniture in the palace. Charming!

Again, nothing about albino ferrets belonging to Queen Victoria.

They did mention that she gave foreign dignitaries various dogs ‘from the Queen’s kennels’ as presents, but that was all.

I would dearly love to know where the information that she used to give away albino ferrets in cages to visiting statesmen came from so if anyone can point me towards proof of that claim, please email me and let me know.

I will be forever grateful :-)
