More on the bushfires
The devastation and the destruction is just overwhelming and it’s impossible not to cry when watching the news. It’s unbelievable. And to think some of those fires were deliberately lit beggars belief! I’ve heard that as the firemen were putting out fires, a fire bug was behind them and lighting new fires! How can anyone do such a thing!?
I know there are a lot of ferrets in Victoria and would imagine that a lot of the farming communities would have them so that they could go ferreting. I’ve tried to find out news about that but there’s nothing and it’s probably just as well as I think the news would be heartbreaking.
There was a report of two sisters who stayed behind to look after their pets and their horses and all of them perished. How many more tragic tales will we hear before the week ends!?
As you can see from this photo, the family are sleeping in their car but look – they have a cat carrier there too, so hopefully they saved their pets!
We’ve been having some hot weather here in the West and today is supposed to reach 39C (close to 100F) and the authorities have issued a high fire danger alert. It wouldn’t surprise me if someone thinks it’d be a laugh to light a few fires in our national park as a lot of our fire fighters are in Victoria at the moment.
Fortunately we live just 10 minutes away from the Indian Ocean and there aren’t any dry forests nearby so we should be okay but I’d imagine the people who live in the Hills would have their pet carriers by their front door in case they had to run.
I saw some lovely photos of wildlife being treated for burns and although they’re nothing to do with ferrets, I just had to share them with you. They’re the lucky ones, which have been found and helped.

my dear friend, I too shed tears when i read your post. IT is indeed
tragic and insulting to know that some of these fire were set by some
deranged arsonist’s, The path of ruined dreams, families, and lives lost in the fires destruction is simply one of mindless murder.
my heart, thoughts and prayers go out to those families.
NONA I’m glad your safe, But i know that you and many others, will not have been left untouched. Until i hear from you again NONA, may your family keep safe and give your little ones my love.
Oh Nona.
Been reading about the fires back here in the States. It's been on the news & in all the papers. Who would do such a thing, & why????Makes me ill.
The poor helpless animals let alone all the wounderful familys that are being hurt, even killed.I just can't believe it. What's this world coming to.
My prayers go out to all the people & the animals there.

I’ve been keeping up with the news about these fires, and it’s absolutely heartbreaking–but thank god for some good news and sweet pictures!
As for people starting fires at bad times–that’s a common occurence where we live. More than once we’ve had unattended backyard fires spread into our own acreage. It is indeed a scary thing.
Hope everyone stays safe and well!
