Manga is the Japanese word for comics and the comics are not your usual Snoopy or Doonsbury type drawings. Remember AstroBoy, he of the large, oval eyes? Well, the manga cartoon characters are along those lines — heroines with big eyes and animal companions which are equally big-eyed while the heroes have long hair and a type of effeminate look. However manga is not just about drawing the cartoon characters a certain way. The style also has a narrative form which involves mystery and romance.

What, I hear you ask, has manga got to do with ferrets? Well, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is going to feature 2 comic strips and one of them is called “Peach Fuzz“.

The comic is about a 9-year old called Amanda Keller who buys a sleepy ferret called Peach. The thrust of the comic is that Peach believes that she’s royalty and isn’t impressed about being taken away from her subjects at the pet store. Life in the little girl’s home is soon turned upside down by Her Ferret Highness Peach!

Sounds like it will be a fun comic and hopefully one day it’ll find its way down under so that we can read it too!
