The vet put her on 0.5ml Benazepril and 0.5ml Frusemid twice a day and it made a huge difference to her – I am so thrilled!

She lost 100g in fluid and that meant that her stomach is now approximately 10″ in circumference, so that’s an inch less than when she had that awful taut belly.

She’s eating and drinking well, licking up her smoothy with gusto and seems to be quite spritely as she wanders around the house so I have every finger crossed that she’ll continue to do well. The vet said that the medicine would work until it didn’t but a friend told me she knows of a ferret with a similar heart condition who’s been going for years so I hope that will be Kaos’ case. Obviously it all depends on the health and stamina of the ferret as to how long it will be before the illness takes its toll but I’m very hopeful as Kaos hasn’t had any problems before so …. we live in hope :-)

I found an online naturopath here in Australia who has dealt with sick ferrets in the past so I filled out a consultation form and paid to get some herbs sent over, which I hope will be beneficial. The lady tells me that it won’t interact with Kaos’ medicine so I will try it out and let you know how she goes.

With a bit of luck and lots of love, we might just keep the old girl going for another couple of years ;-)
