For all ferret entrepreneurs out there ….
I have just come across a rather quirky little news item from Reuters UK reporting about how the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, in Washington DC, is looking at ways people can safely dispose of unused prescription drugs that are liable to be abused.
The department says that “Mixing prescription drugs with an undesirable substance, such as used coffee grounds or kitty litter, and putting them in impermeable, nondescript containers, such as empty cans or sealable bags, will further ensure the drugs are not diverted.”
And then there was this little gem from SAMHSA’s spokesman Mark Weber who said, “Ferret waste, like nearly any other form of pet waste, can be effectively used to help prevent the abuse of unused prescription drugs.”
So, to get back to the enterprising spirit …. how about scooping up all the poop from your little darlings’ litter trays and bagging them up into small sacks of, say, 50g-100g, then selling them to your local drug store or pharmacy? Then, if people come in and ask the pharmacist what they should do with their unused drugs, they can, in turn, sell those bags of ferret poop to their customers!
I suggested that to my kids and boy, you should have seen the hairy eyeball each one of them gave me!
Well, heck, I thought it was a good idea!!!

Hi Bill
I haven’t checked my AAF webmail recently so no, I didn’t get your emails. I’ll do that shortly
It would have been quite a picture to see soldiers running around trying to catch mink, I must say! Did that happen in the States or somewhere else?
When I was researching my page about European mink, I saw that they only farm American mink (poor little things). Apparently their fur is much thicker and more luxurious than their European cousins. However when animal liberators release them into the countryside in Europe, the mink cause a lot of damage because they take over the European minks’ territories and now that animal is seriously endangered.
Sometimes people, no matter how well intentioned, should leave things alone.
I really hate the thought of fur farms being set up, and am not impressed with people who buy fur to wear, but I guess the knee-jerk reaction is not the way to make things better.
I’ll go check my mail now
hey Nona, So you got my 2 emails i see? or did you beat me to it? oh
and what did you think about all thous minks that were set loose? Can you just see those army men chasing those poor minks all over the country side?
