Ferrets & Swine Flu

As all ferret owners know, ferrets can catch the flu from humans and so this outbreak of deadly swine flu is really very worrying.
I would suggest that everyone takes exceptional care to make sure no one outside the family handles your ferrets and if anyone in the family has a sniffle, please keep them well away from your pets.
It’s upsetting enough to read about
laboratory ferrets being infected with swine flu so that researchers can find out what is happening with this particular strain, but it would be an absolute tragedy if pet ferrets caught this flu and died from it.
I’ve listed symptoms and advice on what to do if your ferret has the flu
on my site, so if worried, take a look and see what you need to look out for.
Hopefully they’ll get this under control sooner rather than later but till then, please do take care of yourselves and all your ferrets!

Hi Nona.
I guess No news !!! Is Good News as for the 669 bill. Still being reviewed so I hear.Just hope all the Ferret owner here in the USA have done their part. Not just the Ferret owners are at risk here. Let's think about the poor Ginny Pig as well. These animals don't belong on the list.
Hope all's well by you & Yours. Give your kids a big hug for me
JC
Hi Susan …
No, sorry, nothing that I can find on that bill re ferrets. I promise I will keep my beady eye out on what’s happening and post as soon as I know.
Till then, take care and give your gang a big hug from ours down under
JC – hogs and pigs are the animals listed as OK for this wretched bill.
Now I have no problems with pigs and I know that they can make super pets BUT … if they produce pig/swine flu, then how can our ferrets be considered a danger to the environment, pray tell?
You’re probably right about them blaming this flu on our pets but, I think, it’ll be the pot-bellied pig owners and not our ferrets – which die from flu!!
What a world we are living in … frightening!
Great point, Nona! Thanks for the reminder about how susceptible our little guys are to our colds and flu.
Any more news on HR669?
Dooks and Dances,
Susan
Hi Nona.
Your right about the ferrets getting cold & all. That's what started my Zoies illness & cold from us. You can bet that if anyone here even sneezes my kids are going to be shut up in their room.( Stay Out) Just one more thing to worry about, with this stupid H.R. 669 bill. now watch them try to blame this flu on our pets.
Thanks for the input always appreciated.
Hugs to your Gang & good health to you & yours
