Ferrets in the snow …!
I love this photo, I really do. Talk about the innocence of children and animals
It’s absolutely gorgeous!
I would love to see how our ferrets would enjoy the snow – I reckon they’d go bananas and think all their Christmases had come at once.
Although, having said that … I know both Kahlua and Muis go all funny if their feet touch water on the floor where they’re walking so maybe the snow wouldn’t appeal to them.
When I had the food and water dishes by the chest of drawer for Kaos, it used to amuse me to see how those two girls used to tiptoe past the dishes after Seamus had dunked his head in the water and splashed it all over the place!
Anyway, back to the photo. According to the Bend Bulletin, Central Oregon is going to have a lot more snow falling every day of this week so I hope the owners of Beauregard, the little ferret in the photo, will let him enjoy more outings for the days to come
Obviously no way we would ever get snow like that here in Perth but we did take 3 of our ferrets down to the beach very early one New Year’s Day morning many years ago. They had a ball – they dug almost all the way to China and made the most impressive tunnels in the sand I’ve ever seen. Of course I was careful to make sure they didn’t get caught in a sand slide while they were in the holes as that would have spoiled our day for sure!
Now why won’t my present ferrets play in their dig box with as much enthusiasm as their predecessors did digging in the sand, hmmmmm

Hi Suz
I had to laugh at your description of how your escape artist reacted to the snow … I could just imagine it
The rice sounds like a great idea. We had aquarium gravel for our first group of ferrets, and they used to love snuffling around in that.
For some reason my present group aren’t impressed so maybe I’ll bat my eyelashes at my husband and see if he’ll go and get a sack of rice to try out. If they don’t like it, we can always cook it

Greetings, I’ve been lurking for a while here.
I put my ferrets outside in the snow when it snowed here a few years ago (once every 200 years or so). Two of my fuzzbutts loved it, but the notorious escape artist didn’t even touch the ground when he turned to jump back inside!
My ferrets also hated the beach, but I have 2 newer fuzzies who have never been, so I’ll have to try them out.
My dig box is a 25lb sack of jasmine rice (my vet suggested it because if they ingest it, it won’t hurt them) and they love it. They’ll flip in and out of it occasionally. It’s also really easy to sweep or vacuum up.
