Ferret lovers unite, and please sign this petition!

I was contacted by a Californian ferret owner who asked if I could get as many people to sign the petition that they’ve got going to get ferrets legalized in CA.
I’ve just put my name to it and hope all of you who read this blog will do so as well. We have to show that we’re a gathering force behind CA ferret lovers. It’s absolutely RIDICULOUS in this day and age that ferrets are banned in that state!
The petition can be found on this site.
Let’s hope we can turn the tide and feel proud that we’ve made a difference with our voices

Oh Dada – I know that all the mustelid family seems to get a bad rap from people and I don’t know why.
It’s probably because they have a slight musky odour (well, very strong if the males are unsterilised!) and sharp teeth so people tend to think of them as smelly predators. As if cats don’t kill birds …! Grumph!
I know how you feel – Kahlua and Muis cuddle us at night and occasionally the boys will come and sleep under the quilt too. I love feeling them against my leg – they are so sweet and wouldn’t last a day outside if they got lost.
I’ve signed petitions to legalize ferrets in CA of course, and will sign every petition in the world to support ferrets and their owners..
Nona,please,keep me informed!
Ferrets are completely domesticated even here in old Europe where live their wild relatives..and even their wild relatives are not dangerous to the balance in the nature..here are lot of predators here who keep down the populations of wild polecats, martens and weasels..then how ferrets would be “injurious”? I’m sure that two of mine could not survive outside..Fritzy is used to be outside without a lash and she never goes more than few meter far from me,she always looks where I am,she sleeps in my bed and is more attached to me than one cat..Fred is still young but is on this way too..cann’t imagine my life without them..
I can’t imagine why this bill has suddenly appeared – could it be after the awful event of the police having to shoot that pet chimp which mauled some woman a few months ago?
Sunny – IF there’s even a hint of ferrets being included in the ban, why don’t you try and get in touch with Megan McCain and see if she can help. I read somewhere that John McCain has a ferret and who better to champion the ferret’s cause than the daughter of a Congressman?!
They are trying. The bill is being presented to Congress this Thursday. In the first written copy of the bill I had seen, it had specifically included ferrets and guinea pigs on it. Now, I see they’ve added “that is determined…to be common and clearly domesticated.” Hopefully, they’ll see sense and realize that US ferrets are completely domesticated and aren’t “injurious” to native wildlife.
I hope.

No, I don’t think it’ll keep people away from signing the petition to appeal HR-669, but if you want, here’s a link to that petition, as well:

Hey Guys !!! No way am I going to give up my Ferrets or any of my pets. I’ll keep signing every petition to keep them. I signed the petition. Ed did too. To legalizing ferrets in Ca. Now I’m going to see if I can find the one for NY. City and sign that one as well.
I just don’t know what this world is coming to.

Ferrets aren’t wild animals. They were domesticated for over than two thausand years. They are same as dogs and cats. The US goverment will ban cats and dogs too???Certainly not!And ferrets are on third place as pets in US:what will they do with all US ferrets!?!?!?
What?????
Sunny, are you telling me that the US Government is seriously thinking about banning ferrets around the country?
Should I delete the request to have people sign this petition so that the new bill doesn’t gather enough signatures to pass? I put up the request on the homepage of my site too …!
God, the last thing I want to be a part of is helping the Govt to ban ferrets!
I’ve signed petitions to legalize ferrets in CA–but, now, if the new bill is passed, there will be a nation-wide ban on most common exotics (ferrets included). Argh–I hate HR 699 (non-native wildlife ban). I don’t see how that would really *work*, but the threat of it is horrifying enough!
Banning most domestic ‘exotics’ is ridiculous as most couldn’t survive without human intervention, now, as the ancestry from wild to current is so filtered and watered down, anyway. What are these lawmakers thinking?
