A Very Merry, Ferrety Christmas to All :-)

Wishing everyone and their ferrets a wonderfully peaceful and happy Christmas, with no surprises, and may 2008 be the best year ever :-)

Remember to keep your ferrets safe from all the new and exciting things that are part of one's Christmas celebrations so that there are no sudden (and expensive!) trips to the vet!

I would mention particularly to all West Aussies to keep their ferrets cool during this coming week.  The forecast for Christmas Day is for 38C, with the rest of the week in the mid-30s, so please make sure your ferrets are protected from the heat if they are kept outside.

Ferret table manners, or lack thereof

I am fascinated at how Seamus eats his dry food.

I left a bowl of food and water in our bedroom so that I could keep an eye out on what Kaos is eating and when Seamus decides he's hungry, he goes to eat out of that bowl rather than the big one in the laundry.

I was watching him this morning ... he takes a piece of kibble and drops it into the water bowl, then sticks his snout in to get it, all the while blowing water out of his nose (so it looks!.

Silly Willy Weasels

Philip found this game and bought it for our granddaughter, Imogen, for Christmas.

My eyes lit up when I saw it -- what a perfect present for ME!!! I could go out and get Imogen a boring old Barbie doll instead but He Who Must Be Obeyed wouldn't allow it.

Boo hiss!

Still ... maybe I can persuade Imogen to leave the game at her grandma's house so that she can play it when she comes over to stay? Heh heh heh - talk about me being a silly "wily" weasel ;-)

Update on Kaos

It's been almost a week since Kaos has been on her latest formula and although she seems quite bright, her stomach is still swollen and looks like it's full of fluid :-(

Attention Aussie ferret owners!

Do you feed your ferrets fresh meat?

If you do, you might want to rethink what you feed them in the light of this article, which says that giving your pets "fresh [pet] meat" found in supermarkets and pet stores could kill them as it's full of preservatives.

Sulphur dioxide is added to extend the shelf-life of the fresh pet meat and the vet industry wants this banned because this preservative, if found in high levels, can deplete vitamin B1 in your pet. This would cause lethargy, rashes, loss of weight, wobbliness, seizures and even death.

So, if you want to feed your ferrets fresh meat, then the best thing is to get some cheap cuts from your friendly neighborhood butcher and dice them up instead.
