Otter kits

I came across a wonderful slide show of otter kits at

http://www.nbc4.tv/slideshow/news/10845418/detail.html?qs=;s=1;w=400

and as you can see from the photo of these two scamps ...

... they are "otterly" cute!! :-)

Sorry! I couldn't resist that!

Speaking of otters - I reckon Angus is part otter. He doesn't drink from the water dish like the others, oh no. He puts both front paws in and snorkles around, then goes hooning around the house like a banshee.

He also loves coming into the shower in the morning and dancing around, getting soaking wet and doing his weasel wardance around the bathroom.

Warming use for drug seizures

Well how about that!

At least the English authorities have put confiscated items to good use for the animals at the Conservation Park - so much better than just auctioning off the stuff :-)

ONCE it was used in the production of cannabis. Now a more acceptable purpose has been found for drug-making equipment seized in a series of raids across the New Forest.

Police have donated lamps, fans and other devices seized during raids on cannabis factories, to the New Forest Otter, Owl and Wildlife Conservation Park near Ashurst.

Steppe Polecat

I've finally completed the page about the Steppe Polecat. Boy, it was hard work to find interesting information about that animal.

Because it lives in Eastern Europe and Asia most of the information would have been easy to compile if I could understand Russian or Chinese but as I don't ...!

Anyway, I do hope it will be of interest to those of you who are interested in finding out more about one of the ferret's close relatives :-)

46 Ferrets!!! Wowsers!

Just had to share this newspaper article with you. :-)

Thank goodness for people like the Ruutels, taking in unwanted ferrets - and also the people who take in ANY unwanted animal.

You hear about how cruel people can be with pets but then there are so many others who do wonderful things for them.

When reading the article, I was especially moved by Jane's comment about how one of her ferrets licked her tears off her face when she was crying after her father had died.

European Polecat

Just to let you know I've finally finished my page about the European Polecat and got it up!

It's quite amazing to see how similar the polecats are in appearance to a dark sable ferret and I guess when they're trying to find out if the "pure" polecat numbers in England have increased, it would be difficult to work out if they were ferrets or not.

As an example, I put a picture of my gorgeous boy, CJ, there. He's no longer with us unfortunately but he certainly was a handsome fella in his day and to my mind looked very much like a European Polecat ;-)
