I saw this article at the end of last week and didn't want to read it, as I knew I would be so upset at the thought of someone's pet ferret (the English refer to sable ferrets as polecats) being savaged by a dog.

But then I thought, no ... it's important to make a point to ALL ferret owners who take their pets walkabout.

Please, please, please ALWAYS pick up your ferret if you see a dog nearby. Even if you have a terrier living at home which is your ferret's best buddy, a strange dog will not have the same sense of friendliness towards a ferret, obviously!  Read more...

Fishers belong to the family Mustelidae, which includes badgers, mink, martens, otters, skunks, weasels and wolverines.

Fishers are classified under the subfamily Mustelinae, which has a total of 33 species in nine genera. There is only one species of fisher, which is also called the pekan. The fisher is found only in North America.

I am amazed that ferret racing isn't a "normal" event in North Wales. Certainly we see it happening in England and I just assumed that it would be something which would have been well known all around Britain.

The photo of the pipes was taken at the ferret races held by WAFFS - it was while ago and the girl with the ponytail is our youngest daughter, Danielle.

The guy didn't think his ferrets could get into that skinny pipe -- hah! A ferret owner should ALWAYS be paranoid and believe his ferret/s will be able to do the most amazing things so make sure every hole is covered up, otherwise it could be disasterous.
