Featured blogger

I was selected to be a featured blogger for Pet Blogs United and it was a joy to write about how ferrets first came into my life.

It brought back so many memories of Mash, the fun we had together and the things she taught me about their wonderfully quirky habits. I got quite snottery when I remembered her funny little personality and the very unco weasel wardance she used to do :D

I do recommend people to visit the site. There are quite a number of pet blogs featured there but they’re mainly about dogs and cats, so if you have a ferret blog, it’d be great if you got your blog listed there as well.

What better way to educate pet lovers about the best pet in the world ;)

This made me bawl my eyes out …

I know the story below is about a dog but all we have to do is substitute “ferret” for “dog” and make some minor adjustments in our minds to make it fit a ferret.

But whatever animal’s name is there, it all come down to the same thing … there are too many people with pets who really can’t be bothered to do all it takes to care for and keep their furry friends for life.

Have a hanky handy when you read this – you’ll need it!

A grey ferret? I don’t think so!

Someone had emailed me, asking questions about ferrets in Shanghai so I was just trying to find some answers via Google and I came across a link which said “Headshot of Grey Ferret With Attractive Face”.
That really took my interest so I clicked on it and came across this picture …

and Animal Photos!

I know it kinda looks like a ferret but it’s obviously not one, and I wish people would check that they have the right species of animal before tagging it.

Another of the tags for this picture was “zoo”, so if this picture was taken of an animal in a zoo, and the zoo called it a ferret then that is doubly bad.
The reason it annoys me is because it helps to perpetuate the myth that a ferret is a wild animal – it isn’t, and so perhaps people should be sure that they have the right tag for their animal before putting it up for all to see.
It’s a great photo but it’s a picture of an ichneumon, also known as a ““Pharaoh’s rat”.  I spoke about the ichneumon in my section about Ferrets in Ancient Times because I was trying to find proof that ferrets were around during ancient Egyptian times, like some people claim, and I honestly think that, like this picture, the ichneumon was mistaken for a ferret in those days too.
I must say seeing such a clear photo of the head, it does look remarkably like a ferret but when you see the whole body, like on this Spanish site which is all about “El Meloncillo” (the ichneumon), you’ll see that it’s really nothing like a ferret.

Man tortures ferrets online

I came across this news report and am speechless!

Why do people do such things?! “Relieve stress” he claims … * snort *!

I know what I’d like to do to him and then he’d know what stress really was!

11/04/2007 16:26 – (SA) Tokyo – A Japanese man enraged when his ferret bit him was arrested on Wednesday for torturing the pet and dozens of other animals and then posting footage of the abuse online, police and media reports said.
