The following plea from Barb was put on my Natural Remedies page and I was worried that perhaps it wouldn’t be seen by many people so have put it here to see if any ferret owner can help this lady.

I share my home with 6 wonderful ferrets – my Lemmy is 2-1/2 years of age.

He recently has developed these sores around his mouth and nose. The vet gave him meds to fight any infection but it has not done a thing for him.

He is still eating normally but he sleeps a bit more.

We thought he was allergic to something but can not figure that out either.

I have been to web site after web site. I can’t find the answer,so please — if anybody has any idea on how to help him, my email is blake.68(AT)hotmail(DOT)com.

We will be forever grateful.”

Now I googled “sores in mouth” for ferrets and came across an article about Insulinoma on the MD Ferret Paws site – scroll down to the Insulinoma section and in the first paragraph, near the end, you’ll see that they say one of the symptoms of insulinoma is that a ferret gets sores in its mouth.
When CJ developed insulinoma, he didn’t get that symptom at all so I can’t speak from experience but has anyone else had a ferret with mouth sores?  If so, can you please email Barb and perhaps share your experience?  You’ll see that I changed her email address and put (AT) instead of @ and (DOT) instead of . to stop her from getting spammed.
The poor woman is obviously at her wit’s end trying to find out what’s wrong with her little man and it would be great if we could help her.
