Do you feed your ferrets fresh meat?
If you do, you might want to rethink what you feed them in the light of this article, which says that giving your pets “fresh [pet] meat” found in supermarkets and pet stores could kill them as it’s full of preservatives.
Sulphur dioxide is added to extend the shelf-life of the fresh pet meat and the vet industry wants this banned because this preservative, if found in high levels, can deplete vitamin B1 in your pet. This would cause lethargy, rashes, loss of weight, wobbliness, seizures and even death.
So, if you want to feed your ferrets fresh meat, then the best thing is to get some cheap cuts from your friendly neighborhood butcher and dice them up instead.

I totally agree with your thoughts about the quality of pet food these days. Fortunately my gang aren’t avid meat eaters — I give them some fresh chicken breast when I have it for our own dinner and they’ll eat a bit but aren’t very enthusiastic
Well, at least I know that what they do eat won’t poison them (I hope!)!!

it is very frustrating to say the
least that we can’t cant trust the pet food corp & industry to do the right thing. THEY use these low grade and often substandard
Ingredient’s preservative’s and filler’s. cardboard, boot-leather, sawdust and god knows what-else to keep cost in production down. and it’s our pets that pay the price. hell inmates get better food than our beloved pets! AND as far as any corp “self regulating” quality standard’s for any food or drug alone by them selves, THAT’S down right dangerous, Both here in the U.S.A and over sea’s were it’s even worse. It’s like the fox guarding the hen house. I will remember 2007 as “the year of the recall” “for pet’s and people”
I think the only good that has come out of all this, IS that people are starting to take stand and say “enough!!” OR I’ll make my own, and have become more aware of what’s in “Jimmy’s toy box” & what’s in Rover’s & Fluffy’s bowl.
AND the pet food industry is starting to take notice, however
2008 has not yet started. AND this month there has been a recall on vaccines for immunizations, NOT
a good sign. I realize they are not
the same. BUT they are both supposed to have quality and standard’s to go by. Whether it’s for pet’s or people. SADLY they both have fallen short.
let’s hope 2008 is better.
