I was going to put “Angus the idiot” as the heading for this post because it rolled off the tongue better but then I thought, No, I can’t say that as Angus is definitely not an idiot! He’s a very intelligent and strong-willed little man – as you will see from the video clip below :D

He decided a while ago that the bathmat didn’t belong in the bathroom but behind his chair in the sitting room, so quite often I’d walk around the house and trip over the mat when it was stuck underneath a table or whatever.

Philip was home on Monday and he caught Angus trying to take the mat to the sitting room. What I don’t understand is why Angus always insists on pulling the mat under the bureau, which is in one hallway, then under the telephone table which is in the entrance hall?? I mean, wouldn’t life be easier if he just dragged the mat straight down the corridor to the sitting room?

You’d think, but obviously that’s not what Angus thinks! :)

I had just finished feeding the ferrets their chicken in the bathroom, so the mat had two plates on it, one for Muis’s chicken, the other one for the others, and they came along for the ride too! I was so relieved that he didn’t break them when he was dragging the mat across the house!

Out of all my ferrets, Angus has the most unbelievably wonderful winter coat! It’s thick and lush and soft and oh-so-beautiful. I wish I could train him to just lie across my neck quietly while I watch TV or lie in bed using my computer so that he could keep me warm ;)

Strangely enough, during autumn I was really quite worried about him. I called him my greyhound ferret, because he was long and lean and lanky, and you could see his hip bones showing. I would have taken him to the vet for a check up but he felt really solid and heavy when I picked him up so I knew he wasn’t ill.

I put him on the same dose of Poly-MVA morning and night with Muis and I wonder if that’s the reason his coat is so magnificent compared to the others.

But I must tell you what he did a few weeks ago with Zac – it was just about the funniest thing I have ever seen in all my years with ferrets :)

Angus was still not 100% comfortable with Zac but he’d stopped chasing him around the house, which was a good thing. This particular morning, Philip and I were sitting up in bed drinking our coffee and Angus was on the top of the doona (quilt) being silly and doing a small weasel wardance when Zac came into the bedroom and stood at the foot of the bed.

Angus immediately stopped his silly antics and turned to look at Zac. Suddenly his tail puffed out so that it looked like a huge, white feather duster. Not only that but Angus seemed to somehow expand his coat so that he almost doubled in size, then he stood on tiptoes making himself look even bigger and slowly, very slowly, started walking ponderously towards the end of the bed.

You could almost hear the music from a spaghetti western playing in the background as he approached Zac, swaying from side to side like a rogue cowboy! Philip and I almost choked on our coffee we were giggling so much.

Philip thought that Angus looked like a porcupine. I thought that he looked like an albino polar bear! It really just cracked us both up to see this big ball of white fur slowly approaching the dog and eyeballing him!

Terrified, Zac turned and ran out of the bedroom and, satisfied that he’d protected us from the dastardly dog, Angus somehow deflated himself and carried on with his silly weasel wardancing across the bed.

You could almost imagine him gleefully thinking “Me – ONE! Dog – ZERO!”

That’s what I love about having ferrets – apart from the occasional times when I get stressed out when one of them is sick – I find that they bring me so much laughter and happiness every single day.

They really are the best little critters!
